Drunk Chicago man arrested while trying to operate on his dog

CHICAGO — A Chicago man was charged with felony animal cruelty after cops caught him operating on his pet dog while drunk, The Chicago Tribune reported Monday.

Cops went to the home of Stewart Gibbs, 44, to check on his welfare after his landlord reported he was naked and covered in blood.

When officers arrived at the apartment late Sunday they found a “highly intoxicated” man who had been operating on his pet Doberman, named Foley, in a bid to remove a cyst from under the dog’s right ear, police spokesman John Mirabelli said.

Blood was found on the floor and the walls. The large black Doberman had a gash in his head.

Bail was set for Gibbs, a health care administrator, at $75,000 Monday, while Foley was taken to an emergency veterinary center for treatment.

Officials said Gibbs gave up custody of the dog and it was in the care of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Gibbs was due to appear again in court later this month, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.
