Transocean blames BP for Deepwater Horizon disaster

GENEVA — Transocean said Wednesday that an internal investigation found that the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion, which led to nearly five billion gallons of oil being dumped into the Gulf of Mexico last year, was the fault of BP.

The investigation team, made up of experts from relevant technical fields and specialists in accident investigation, concluded that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was the result of a succession of interrelated well design, construction and temporary abandonment decisions made by the operator, BP, in the two weeks leading up to the April 20, 2010, explosion that killed 11 people.
