Expert calls kid autopsy in Caylee case ‘shoddy’

ORLANDO, Fla. — A renowned forensic expert says the autopsy done on 2-year-old Caylee Anthony was “shoddy.”

Dr. Werner Spitz gave testimony today in the trial of Casey Anthony, the Florida mother charged with murder in Caylee’s death.

Spitz has been an expert witness in several high-profile cases, including that of O.J. Simpson. He says it was a failure that Caylee’s head was not opened during the official autopsy. Spitz conducted a second autopsy afterward.

Casey Anthony has pleaded not guilty. The defense says the girl drowned in her grandparents’ swimming pool. The prosecution contends that Caylee was suffocated by duct tape placed over her nose and mouth.

The court adjourned this afternoon. The case will resume Monday morning.
