At least 4 dead in LI drugstore shooting

He left no witnesses. A heartless robber stormed into a family-owned Medford pharmacy this morning and slaughtered four people, triggering a massive manhunt.

A pharmacist, a teenage worker, and two customers were killed when the backpack-toting gunman unleased the volley inside Haven Drugs in Medford at roughly 10 a.m.

“This is a vicious, horrible crime,” said Suffolk County Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone. “We are dedicating a great number of resources. Right now, our primary interest is apprehending the individual or individuals involved.”

Police believe robbery may have been a motive. Investigators took a laptop from the drugstore and are searching for surveillance footage that may have captured the suspect.

Police did not release a description, but a police radio call after the incident instructed officers to look for a man with a backpack who scurried away from the scene.

The pharmacy’s owner showed up to his blood-soaked store after the incident and passed out before being loaded into an ambulance.
