Justin Bieber fans rush singer at Midtown promotional event

A frenzied horde of teenaged fans swarmed Justin Bieber today in Herald Square, sparking a near riot that ended with one his own security men under arrest, officials said.

Bieber, 17,was inside Macy’s, hyping his new fragrance line “Someday,” when the pint-sized hit maker went off script and strolled outside the meet fans.

The NYPD set up barricades so Bieber could safely wave at supporters, cops said.

When the mental barricades came down under a crush of fans, cops surrounded Bieber and beat a hasty retreat to the store.

“It was definitely a dangerous, hairy situation,” one police source said.

But for some reason, one of Bieber’s own body guards wouldn’t get out of the way or move fast enough to get Bieber inside — despite numerous police orders to move, law enforcement sources said.

The hired muscle — 47-year-old Moshe Benabou— was cited for disorderly conduct. The resident of Panama City, Fla., could not be immediately reached for comment.

Further adding to the confusion was a plainclothes NYPD cop, who jumped toward Bieber — in an effort to push him back inside — and singer shoved the cop, not knowing who he was, according to Macy’s and Bieber’s camps.

The singer was not hurt or knocked down in the melee.

“It was a momentary well-intentioned misunderstanding and the event went well,” said Bieber’s spokesman Matthew Hiltzik. “He’s completely fine and has no injuries.”

The “Never Say Never” singer has been making his way around town in connection to his launch.

He appeared on the “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Wednesday night, before sitting down on “The View” yesterday morning.

He explained to “View” ladies why he named named his fragrance “Someday.”

“It’s just an inspirational word meaning ‘What is your someday, what is your dream?’ ” he said.

Bieber has a devoted Twitter following of 10.5 million fans.

The ladies made a passing reference to the recent Twitter troubles of US Rep. Anthony Weiner, and asked Bieber if he’s ever been in hot water through social media.

He recalled that dad Jack Bieber once, accidentally, put his own email address out on Twitter.

But otherwise, Bieber said his only problem is occasionally Tweeting while in the heat of a moment.

“Sometimes i just say what’s on my mind .¤.¤ usually i need to count to 10 and not Twitter when I’m angry,” he said.
