A Love Affair of Sorts

You show me your camera, and I’ll show you mine. That sums up the low-budget indie “A Love Affair of Sorts.”

David, played by the movie’s director, David Guy Levy, and Enci (Lili Bordan) meet in an LA bookstore. She’s shoplifting, and he’s furtively filming her with his tiny hand-held video camera.

They have lunch together and visit each other’s apartments. Next thing we know, they agree to spend several days filming each other filming each other as they go about their daily routines.

Enci’s boyfriend and David’s best male buddy show up briefly, although the story is mostly about David, Enci, their cameras and their neuroses.

It isn’t until the final act that we discover matters aren’t what they seem to be.

Levy’s innovative movie should appeal to mumblecore fans while perplexing mainstream audiences. But even the latter will chuckle at the sight of a white cat sitting on the toilet seat while tinkling into the bowl.
