Chances ‘pretty good’ for 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field

PHOENIX — Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig all but confirmed the 2013 All-Star Game will be played at the Mets’ Citi Field.

“Well, we’ll announce it at some point in the world. I’d say their chances look pretty good,” Selig said Tuesday at this year’s game here.

The 2012 game is scheduled for Kansas City.

Selig said he thinks the Mets’ financial situation will be stabilized once the Wilpon family completes a deal for a $200 million infusion from David Einhorn, who once lived next to Selig in Milwaukee.

“He played baseball in my back yard. How could I turn him down?” Selig said, according to ESPN.com. “… Yes, he’s cleared. They have to finish the deal. And, by the way, I think they’re making very good progress toward that end.”

The website reported Selig made reference to a favorable court ruling in the Wilpons legal matters regarding Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

“I note with some interest they’ve had some movement in the right direction in that (legal) area,” Selig said. “But I think once this (Einhorn) deal is done, I think the Mets at least for the foreseeable future will be fine.”
