Singer Rick Springfield pleads not guilty to DUI charge

LOS ANGELES — Singer Rick Springfield, best known for his 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl,” pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of DUI.

Springfield, 61, did not appear in the Los Angeles courtroom. His lawyers entered the plea on his behalf, TMZ.com reported.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers smelled alcohol when they pulled Springfield over for a traffic violation on May 1.

Officers administered field sobriety tests, on which Springfield reportedly registered a blood alcohol level of .10. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into jail. He was later released on $5,000 bail.

If convicted on both counts, Springfield faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15.
