Spero Dedes, the Fordham graduate who agreed two weeks ago to jump ship from the Lakers and become the radio voice of the Knicks, was arrested for DWI in the Hamptons during the July 4th weekend.
Dedes’ lawyer, Colin Astarita, told The Post yesterday that he believes a “complete dismissal” will take place, saying, “The early stages from the police paperwork show inconsistencies with the police allegations and what actually transpired that night.”
Dedes was stopped by Southampton police at 4:12 a.m. Sunday morning for speeding, according to the arrest report, while driving a 2006 BMW. The 32-year-old ex-Net broadcaster was then charged with DWI. He posted $500 bail Sunday and a hearing will take place today.
Astarita said he can’t comment on Dedes’ relationship with the Knicks. The up-and-coming Dedes is slated to replace veteran Mike Crispino in the radio booth and also fill in for Mike Breen on MSG Network.
It is unclear if this will affect Dedes’ status. The Knicks have yet to announce the hiring and three Garden officials did not return phone calls yesterday on the matter. The arrest report said Dedes described himself as “self-employed.”
