First Lady to appear on ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ to help homeless vets

WASHINGTON — First Lady Michelle Obama will participate in a taping of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” as part of her ongoing “Joining Forces” initiative to help military families, the White House announced Monday.

She will tape the episode with a military family, the Marshalls, Thursday in Fayetteville, N.C. The show will feature Barbara Marshall, a 15-year Navy veteran who started a home called “The Steps-N-Stages Jubilee House,” which gives homeless female vets a place to stay and other support services.

The Extreme Makeover team will be building a new jubilee house in this week’s taping.

The show is scheduled to air in October.

This is not Michelle Obama’s first television stop to promote “Joining Forces.” Last month, she taped a special appearance on Nickelodeon’s “iCarly.” The show’s lead character, Carly Shay, is the daughter of a colonel serving abroad and in the episode, her two best friends break rules to set up a web chat so Carly can talk to him.

The “iCarly” episode is slated to air in January.
