Yankees seek more relief

Rafael Soriano is expected to be back in the bullpen tonight, but that doesn’t mean the Yankees still aren’t looking for more relief help.

“I’m out there listening to everything, seeing what’s available and seeing if it fits for us,” general manager Brian Cashman said.

The Yanks are looking at lefties, since they only have Boone Logan — with Pedro Feliciano almost certainly out for the season and Damaso Marte not close to returning.

Logan wouldn’t mind some company.

“As long as I keep the late-inning role, I’d love to have another lefty down there,” Logan said.

“He’s done a nice job,” Cashman said. “If I can get someone to assist us, fine, but if not, I’m comfortable with what we’ve got.”

That includes Soriano, whose signing Cashman famously did not support in the offseason.

Still, Cashman believes the righty can help in the pen, despite his rough start in The Bronx.

“When he’s healthy, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be [good],” Cashman said.

David Robertson said yesterday he doesn’t care what inning he pitches when Soriano returns, although he’s likely to stay in his eighth-inning role.

“I think it just helps us out,” the All-Star said. “I don’t really care where I pitch.”

Robinson Cano
doesn’t think the lineup needs any help before the deadline.

“We’re good where we are,” Cano said. “Of course, we miss Alex
[Rodriguez
], but we’re still winning games.”

Sergio Mitre
, out with shoulder tendinitis, is expected back in New York for further tests.
