Knife-wielding man shot by military police at airport in The Netherlands

EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands — A knife-wielding man was shot by military police Friday at Eindhoven Airport in the southeast of The Netherlands, regional TV station Omroep Brabant reported.

A witness said the man was brandishing a knife and that military police shot him in the leg. He was being treated by paramedics.

The man shouted “I want to return to my country” several times before he was overpowered, the De Telegraaf newspaper reported.

A video posted online showed police officers surrounding the man in front of the terminal building.

Travelers were barred temporarily from leaving or entering the terminal building, which was cordoned off.

Eindhoven Airport is the second biggest in The Netherlands, handling two million passengers per year.
