Giants bring back QB Carr

The Giants in a surprise move signed David Carr to compete for the backup quarterback job with Sage Rosenfels. Carr, 32, was Eli Manning’s backup in 2008 and 2009 and spent last season with the 49ers. Rosenfels is set to make $3 million this season, considerably more than what Carr is getting paid, meaning this would be a salary cap savings of about $2 million if the Giants jettison Rosenfels. As of now, no move will be made. The two could stage a training camp and preseason battle to determine who sticks on the roster. More likely, Carr will emerge as the backup and Rosenfels is either traded or released.

The Giants are exploring other options at running back, with Ahmad Bradshaw’s contract demands continuing to be too rich for their liking. RB Jason Snelling, mostly a backup with the Falcons the past four years, will visit the Giants today. He is considered a fallback in case Bradshaw goes elsewhere. Bradshaw might be running out of options. He was scheduled to visit the Bengals until they re-signed Cedric Benson. The Redskins expressed interest before they traded with the Cardinals for Tim Hightower. And the Dolphins were interested before they traded for Reggie Bush.
