NY teacher accused of having sex with student

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — A New York City English teacher is accused of having sex with a student who attends the high school where she works.

Nassau County Police said 33-year-old Tara Driscoll of Bay Shore surrendered Friday. She was awaiting arraignment on charges of third-degree rape and criminal sexual act. The name of her attorney was not immediately known.

Police say Driscoll and the student — identified only as being younger than 17 — had sex at a motel in Lynbrook last March. They say the victim remained quiet until his mother found out and contacted authorities.

Driscoll is assigned to the Campus Magnet High School in Queens. A board of education spokesman did not immediately comment.

Police said Driscoll had not been suspended, but was not working with children.
