Why cats hate water? Coyotes

A ravenous horde of swimming coyotes is responsible for the sudden disappearance of nearly 20 cats in a small Long Island community, residents say.

Shaken pet owners on Fisher’s Island, 10 miles off of Long Island’s North Fork, are no longer letting their felines roam freely after the rash of suspected attacks this past month.

“The community board at our local post office is covered with missing posters for cats,” said Charles Kadushin, whose beloved 3-year-old feline, Habibi, vanished after Memorial Day.

Residents and board members say the coyotes are making the milelong swim from Connecticut, where the coyote population has grown, according to The Suffolk Times.

Concerned residents held a special meeting with the Southold Town board about the issue this week.
