Jets’ Greene expects to play against Giants

Running back Shonn Greene was back on the field yesterday after missing Sunday’s game with a skin infection on his right foot.

Greene practiced fully and expects to play Saturday night against the Giants.

“It wasn’t nothing as bad as everybody made it seem,” Greene said of the infection.

Greene said he felt pain in the foot last week after the preseason game with the Texans. He had a corn on the foot that was removed and an infection developed. The foot swelled, and Greene spent several days icing and elevating the foot to get the swelling to go down.

The Jets’ starting offense rushed for 16 yards on Sunday night against the Bengals, but RB LaDainian Tomlinson said not to read too much into that.

“You got to realize we don’t have all our runs in,” Tomlinson said. “We’re only doing a certain amount of runs. These are basic runs, so I wouldn’t overdo it.”

Coach Rex Ryan said he would like to see the offensive line get a better push.

“I’d like to be able to knock some guys off the ball a little bit,” he said. “It doesn’t look like there was a whole lot there for whatever reason.”

Ryan said this week’s game with the Giants does not hold any special meaning, since the two will meet in the regular season on Dec. 24. “It’s a preseason game,” Ryan said. “If we weren’t playing each other in the regular season, then I think it would be because it’s more bragging rights.”
