Guest stars round out summer lineup

LAST LICKS:Mary Steenbur-gen cavorts with Jason Gann on “Wilfred” and the cast of “Pretty Little Liars.”

It must be the final weeks of summer, as the guests are filling the futons at many of Mama’s favorite guilty-pleasure TV shows:

Pretty Little Liars

Broadway star Betty Buckley guest stars as Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) grandmother, joining wicked stepsister Kate (recast with Natalie Hall) who came to town last week in the run-up to dad Tom’s (Roark Critchlow) wedding. The girls can’t be bothered with bridesmaid dresses, however, as they finally decide to tell Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) the truth about “A” in this second to last episode before the midseason finale.

Tuesday, 8 p.m., ABC Family

Royal Pains

Madeline Zima, who might remember as the youngest daughter on the Fran Drescher sitcom “The Nanny,” is now playing a nanny herself to the asthmatic son of a movie star and his wife in a surprisingly entertaining season of the Hamptons doctors.

Wednesday, 9 p.m., USA

Wilfred

Nothing about this comedy has been particularly funny, but Mama can’t seem to stop watching it, mostly due to the impressive list of guest stars. The first season finale allows Ryan (Elijah Wood) to realize that his relationship with his neighbor’s dog (whom he sees as a human, played by Jason Gann) is a bit on the unhealthy side. And who better to make you question your sanity than country western singer Dwight Yoakam, who guest stars in the season closer as one of Wilfred’s former pals trying to warn Ryan. Also guest-starring is Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen.

Thursday, 10 p.m., FX

Alphas

Since her start as the genius/martial arts expert kid sister River Tam on the doomed “Firefly” series, Summer Glau has pretty much made a career out of sci-fi roles, such as “Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles.” In keeping with that theme, this week she joins the Alpha team of crime-fighting freaks.

Monday, 10 p.m., Syfy

Rescue Me

Oh baby: Don’t get your Yankee hopes up about the guest list for this week’s episode, even though the episode is titled “Jeter.” However, if you’re only going to watch one episode in the final season of this fiery series, you’ll want to check this one out. The hilarious John Scurti shines as Lou delivers the “after I’m dead” letters to Tommy Gavin’s (Denis Leary) loved ones a little early with the dark humor that is the lasting legacy of this post-9/11 drama, now in its final season.
