Jets-Giants game moved to Saturday afternoon

Due to the concerns regarding Saturday’s weather forecast, the start time for the Giants vs. Jets preseason game at MetLife Stadium has been moved to 2 p.m.

Giants owner John Mara said Thursday the game was rescheduled so fans would be able to get home safely.

The Giants, who are the host team against the Jets on Saturday night, were monitoring Hurricane Irene but hadn’t expected to change the 7 p.m. start time.

A Giants spokesman said forecasts called for any severe weather from the storm to hit Sunday morning, long after the original kickoff time.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Jets coach Rex Ryan earlier Thursday said he had not been in contact with anyone from the Giants or the NFL about moving the start time.

“I know that [the Giants] and the league will monitor and do what is safe for both teams and the fans,” Ryan said. “I have not been in contact with anybody. Right now, I’m expecting to play and we’ll adjust from there if necessary.”
