LONDON — “Back To Black,” the sophomore release from the late Amy Winehouse, has become the UK’s top selling album of the 21st century, Billboard reported Thursday.
The British singer’s second album has sold 3.26 million copies in her homeland, according to Britain’s Official Charts Company.
James Blunt’s “Back To Bedlam” came in second place with sales of 3.25 million copies and Dido’s “No Angel” landed in third with 3.07 million copies sold.
Winehouse’s album struck Grammy gold after its release in 2006 but sales surged over the summer in the aftermath of her sudden death at age 27.
The soul star, who had a long and publicized battle with substance abuse, was found dead at her North London home July 23.
Toxicology reports revealed she had drunk alcohol before her death but showed she had not taken illegal drugs.
“Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement.
The results of an investigation into the singer’s death are expected in October.
