Beyonce stole the show last night — with her surprise announcement that music’s most powerful couple will soon be a trio.

The superstar songstress declared that she and her hip-hop hubby, Jay-Z, are expecting their first child — spilling the baby beans on the red carpet outside MTV’s Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The former Destiny’s Child singer cradled her not-so-big-yet tummy while posing for pictures on her way into the Nokia Theater — then took the stage to share the happy news with the world.

Revving up the audience for her hit “Love on Top,” she said, “I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside me!”

At the song’s conclusion, she thrust out and rubbed her cummerbund-covered midsection.

The star-studded crowd went wild, loudly applauding the beaming Beyoncé as a proud Jay-Z saluted her from the front row and Kayne West slapped the superstar rapper on the back.

Beyonce’s bombshell baby news came moments after what had been scripted as the night’s big moment — the presentation of the VMAs’ lifetime achievement award to Britney Spears, 29.

The Mouseketeer-turned-trainwreck-turned-comeback kid hailed Beyoncé as a singing, dancing and acting wonder woman. “She can do it all. She’s a triple threat,” Spears said. “And one of the most talented people I’ve ever seen.”

Lady Gaga — after performing as her male alter ego “Jo Calderone” — presented Spears with the honor, known as the Michael Jackson Video Music Award.

It was a big night for Gaga, who remained in her tough-talking male persona throughout the show. The video for her gay-rights anthem, “Born This Way,” won for Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message.

“I’m so, so happy to accept the award tonight, because Gaga’s not here, for Best Female Video,” Gaga said on stage.
