Angry Christie cancels Jersey Shore

EWING, NJ — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not amused to see TV reports showing people squeezing in a little more beach time before evacuating because of Hurricane Irene.

He had strong words for them at a news conference on Friday, saying, “Get the hell off the beach in Asbury Park.”

The boisterous governor continued: “You’re done. Do not waste any more time working on your tan.”

Christie has been calling for voluntary evacuations of New Jersey’s entire coast. There are mandatory evacuations in some places. The storm is expected to spin close to New Jersey tomorrow.

The state is sending in extra buses to help get people out of harm’s way. It also is making some roads one-way away from the beach.
