Victim’s name is bungled

The name of a 9/11 victim — etched in bronze on the newly opened memorial — was misspelled, and the foundation that runs the site is scrambling to fix the error.

Cantor Fitzgerald employee Jeffrey Schreier (below) was mistakenly memorialized as “Jeffery” (pictured) — a blunder his sister Janice Hart noticed Sunday when she visited the memorial.

“I thought they did a lovely job [with the memorial],” Hart said. “It provided me a lot of solace until I saw the misspelling of his name.”

Hart added it was especially distressing because some of her relatives died in the Holocaust leaving nothing tangible, like a grave or a tombstone.

“We regret an error was made by reversing two letters in Jeffrey H. Schreier’s name … and we are extremely sorry for the pain this mistake has caused Jeffrey’s family,” said 9/11 memorial spokesman Michael Frazier. “As soon as we found out about this error, we began working on how to make it right.”
