Giants plan to rough up injured Rams QB

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford practiced yesterday and made all the throws, alleviating concern that the bruised right index finger on his throwing hand would keep him out of Monday’s game against the Giants.

Bradford looks like he will start, and the Giants won’t be shy about seeing if the finger is going to be a problem.

Asked if the Giants would target Bradford’s finger, linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka said, “I plead the fifth.”

Kiwanuka added, “It is cutthroat from the top to the bottom. There’s a line between playing tough and playing dirty. You just don’t cross that line. If there was something with me I would protect it because I would expect people to come after it. I have a history of that going back to college, I had an issue with a leg and having guys after a play literally come in and chop my legs out, so I’m very conscious of the fact if there’s something on the injury report it’s going to be pointed out.”

* Rookie CB Prince Amukamara hadn’t been seen on the field since Aug. 6, when he broke a bone in his left foot in his first and only practice with the Giants after reporting to training camp a week late. In a sign of progress, Amukamara jogged yesterday before his teammates practiced.

“It was pretty weird at first because I haven’t played or ran on the field yet, so it felt a little weird,” said Amukamara, the Giants’ first-round draft pick from Nebraska. “It felt a little sore, but that should be natural. My foot still feels good and still feel I have a limp in it so I’m trying to keep it slow right now.”

Amukamara is expected to miss at least the first four games, but he said he is at or slightly ahead of the timetable the team set for him.

* DE Osi Umenyiora, coming off arthroscopic knee surgery, made his first appearance in the vicinity of the practice field as he rode a stationary bicycle. It appears he has a good chance to be back for the third game, against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

* Rams RB Steven Jackson (strained quad) did not practice, has not been ruled out but is unlikely to play. WR Danny Amendola (elbow) and backup DE C.J. Ah You (wrist) are out.
