Shock and ‘ma’

A fuming Long Island mom drove her daughter to a Facebook fueled schoolyard smackdown — and then allegedly joined the melee, beating up another child who had come to watch the slugfest.

Daphne Melin, 32, of Shirley was arrested yesterday for taking part in the Sept. 11 brawl at William Floyd Elementary School, Suffolk police said.

Witnesses and cops said the hotheaded Melin egged on the fight, and then threw another teenage girl to the ground, kicking her and kneeing her in the neck and head.

Melin exploded after that child reportedly yelled, “You’re a mom! You shouldn’t even be here!”

“Then the mom spit in her face and the girl spit back, and so the mom took her by the pony tail and threw her to the ground,” said a 13 year old witness who caught the shocking fight on video.

The brawl erupted after Melin’s 12yearold daughter got in a dispute via Facebook over a boy, said the teen who recorded the fight.

Melin claims her daughter was being cyberbullied.

“These girls are in eighth and ninth grade and [my daughter] is in seventh grade, but they have no problem bullying her around,” Melin told The Post. Facebook taunts spur LI mom-vs.-girl brawl Her lawyer, Michael J. Brown, claimed the mean girls posted a Facebook threat “we’re going to jump you in school,” and that Saturday night, the daughter’s nemesis warned on Facebook: “Im fg this ct up.’’

Suffolk Detective Lt. Timothy Dillon called Melin’s behavior “outrageous. She knewwhat was going to happen and she made it happen,” Dillon said. “She wanted the 12 year olds to fight.”

“It sounds horrible and it’s just not that way. It’s not true,” Melin insisted. “I’m not that monster everybody’s trying to say I am.”

Melin said she called her daughter’s principal about the bullying, but was told that “since it’s an online issue, they can’t do a thing about it.”

About a dozen kids, drawn by a Facebook posting, showed up to watch the brawl. Police said the girl Melin’s daughter planned to confront was a noshow, so “another girl, a friend, stood in.” Fight footage posted online has since been taken down.

No one was seriously hurt.

Said the teen who shot the brawl, “Themom was telling her, ‘Yeah, yeah, punch her . . . Get her good.’ Then she started to yell at everybody, saying, ‘Effyou, effyou.’ ”

Melin, charged with child endangerment and attempted assault, posted bail.

“It’s just a horrible nightmare,” she said. “It wasn’t my finest hour.”
