B’klyn Dem Hikind feted at GOP bash

The New York State Republican Party rolled out the red carpet for an influential “right-minded’’ Democratic lawmaker who crossed party lines to back Bob Turner’s successful bid for Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat.

State GOP chairman Ed Cox recognized Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov. Hikind at the party’s annual dinner at the Sheraton Midtown tonight. The party faithful enthusiastically applauded Hikind.

Hikind, accompanied by his wife, Shoshana, said he was invited by Turner. He said he hadn’t attended a state GOP dinner before.

“Nice people are nice people,’’ Hikind said of his attendance.

During a pre-dinner press conference with GOP leaders, Turner thanked former Democratic Mayor Koch and Hikind for their support.

“Ed Koch is terrific. Dov Hikind got the job done,’’ Turner said.
