A day after winning Rep. Anthony Weiner’s seat, Republican Bob Turner went on a victory tour today, saying in a TV interview that he “expected to win” and blamed President Obama’s failures for stunning upset.
“I expected to win,” he joked during an appearance on Fox News Channel.
Assemblyman David Weprin conceded the race this morning.
In a statement, Weprin said he had “just called Bob Turner to congratulate him on a well-fought campaign.”
During his TV appearance on Fox, Turner blasted Obama.
“I believe the country is on the wrong course,” he said of Obama’s presidency.
Turner said people in his district, which includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, told him that jobs and the economy were their primary focus.
“There is no leadership in these areas,” he said.
