Cop nabbed in fatal ‘DWI’

An off-duty city cop was busted yesterday for allegedly killing a man in an early-morning DWI accident in The Bronx.

Officer Luis Arneo, 25, who had been on the force for just over a year, was driving his gray 2011 Honda Accord south on White Plains Road near 241st Street when he hit a man walking east.

Tyre Chisholm, 22, was rushed to Montefiore Hospital, where he was DOA.

Arneo stayed at the scene, but was arrested after investigators determined he was drunk, cops said. Sources said police smelled alcohol and Arneo had “watery and glassy eyes.”

He blew a blood alcohol content of .07 while in custody, sources said. State law says that a BAC of more than .05 percent is legal evidence that a driver is impaired.

Arneo was arraigned last night in Bronx criminal court and charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and DWI. He was released on $20,000 bail, sources said.

A woman who answered the phone at his home identified herself as his aunt, and said, “We feel for the other family . . .but we don’t have anything to say right now.”
