PHILADELPHIA — Jeremy Maclin thinks Antrel Rolle and the Giants are running their mouths because they might be running scared.
Responding to Rolle’s comment on the radio this week that he has “handled” Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson one-on-one before and can do so again Sunday, Maclin mocked the Giants safety and Big Blue as a whole.
“A lot of times when people talk, they’re either insecure or scared,” the Philly wide receiver said yesterday as the Eagles (1-1) prepared to take on the Giants (1-1) at Lincoln Financial Field. “I don’t know what he is, but he’s talking, so that says something.”
Maclin added another zinger at the Giants by pointing to the Eagles’ six-game win streak over their NFC East rivals, including last December’s devastating comeback at the Meadowlands that helped knock Tom Coughlin’s team out of the playoffs, a victory capped by Jackson’s game-winning punt return on the final play.
“They have no business talking, because they haven’t done anything the last six times,” Maclin said.
Maclin was by far the most talkative Eagle, as most of his teammates appeared to be operating under coach Andy Reid’s orders to let the Giants provide all the bulletin-board material.
Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel said he wouldn’t talk about the Giants until after Sunday game, while Jackson sidestepped virtually all questions about Rolle.
“I don’t care about that dude, man!” Jackson said on his way out of the locker room.
Jackson’s only response to Rolle came after The Post asked him his feelings on Rolle’s claim that he controlled the speedy wideout in single coverage last season.
“Good job, then,” Jackson said sarcastically. “We got the victories, though.”
Former Giants receiver Steve Smith was as bland as humanly possible about his old team, seemingly upon command from the team because a club PR official hovered over his shoulder throughout a brief interview.
“It’s just another game to me,” Smith said unconvincingly.
Asked if he has something to prove to the Giants, Smith said: “They know exactly what I can do. I’ve proven a lot in that uniform, and now it’s time to prove something in this uniform.”
