Shatner fires phasers at ‘Star Wars’

William Shatner has boldly gone to a galaxy far, far away.

The man who played Captain Kirk has taken aim at “Star Wars,” declaring in a YouTube interview that the franchise was far inferior to “Star Trek.”

“ ‘Star Trek’ had relationships and conflict among the relationships and stories that involved humanity and philosophical questions,” he said in the interview this week.

“ ‘Star Wars’ was special effects, was ILM [Industrial Light & Magic, the visual-effects company] at its best.”

Laughing with his interviewer — daughter Lisabeth — Shatner, 80, also mocked the cast of “Star Wars.”

“God knows what those actors looked like in reality with all those special effects,” he said. “There’s no telling what ILM did for those faces and hairdos. They may have walked around with nothing on.”
