Meyer’s well-deserved medal

The Issue: The decision to award the Medal of Honor to Cpl. Dakota Meyer last week.

***

President Obama and a grateful nation honored Dakota Meyer, USMC, by awarding him our nation’s highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor (“Cpl. Dakota Meyer, Hero,” Editorial, Sept. 16).

He performed indescribable feats of courage in Afghanistan to save the lives of his fellow Marines and of Afghan combatants, making him a true American hero at the age of 21.

It would have been nice to see this young man on your front page. The nation needs more stories about these young American warriors who put their lives on the line on a daily basis for the people of the United States.

How can we bestow the Medal of Honor on Meyer and then force him to meet with Obama? He deserves another medal for that.

Meyer’s heroic rescue of his wounded and slain comrades while under intense enemy gunfire deserves much more attention.
