Jackson reconsiders, alas

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson should stand by her principles — and resign.

As The Post reported Monday, Jackson was all set to do just that two weeks back after being “blind-sided” by President Obama’s decision to overrule her new ozone-regulation diktats.

The president argued — correctly — that imposing such regulations on a weak economy would send precisely the wrong message to the nation’s job-producers.

Whether he actually believes that is open to question. But there’s no doubt that signing off on the regs would produce a lot of political heat.

So he scrapped them.

Jackson didn’t take the news too well: “She was very upset,” according to one administration official. “She didn’t know what she was going to do.”

Jackson was especially miffed that Obama announced the decision before telling her about it.

Obviously, there are any number of ways to end up under Barack Obama’s bus — so Jackson shouldn’t feel like the Lone Ranger or anything.

But, after thinking things over for a bit, she decided to stick around.

This may or may not be good for her, but the country sure would have been better off if the Mad Regulator had taken a hike.

Sure, the president clearly has a more important priority over the next year than pursuing Jackson’s job-killing regulatory agenda: getting reelected.

To that end, the president right now is focused solely on “creating” and “saving” jobs — his own, if no one else’s.

But if he’s successful, count on Ms. Jackson to make a big-time comeback.
