CHSAA/Private girls soccer roundup: Siller sparks Hill over NDA

Meghan Siller’s goal was a pleasant sight on so many levels for St. Joseph Hill.

The Hilltoppers found themselves locked in a scoreless tie with rival Notre Dame Academy at the half and Siller’s score gave them the lead for good in an eventual 2-0 win in CHSAA intersectional girls soccer Tuesday at Miller Field. But it was the way Siller scored that showed she was back to 100 percent after a bruised knee caused her to miss the first five games of the season.

“Meghan had a beautiful goal,” said Hill coach Tom Siller, who is also her grandfather.

She controlled a ball in the box with her back to the goal, faked one way turned to the other and scored with her left foot to give the Hilltoppers (7-0-0), ranked No. 1 in the city by The Post, a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute. Victoria Chirico tallied the other score off a pass from Gianna Smith in the 70th minute.

“It was a big goal for the team today,” Tom Siller said. “For a player to come back from an injury and step up and make a great contribution like that is good for her and the team realizes she is there to help again.”

The coach credited the Gators’ Shannon Rubin for thwarting many of their scoring chances, which they also struggled to finish after dominating play. Kristina Buccellato and Krysta Percaccio were instrumental on defense for first-place Hill. NDA is 3-3-0.
