Girls volleyball roundup: Surging Spellman knocks off St. Catharine

It was supposed to be a rebuilding season for Cardinal Spellman. It just hasn’t looked that way.

Amanda Butler had seven kills, four aces and nine digs and Jessica Ricciardi had 13 digs to lead Spellman to a 25-11, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15 win over three-time defending league and Archdiocesan champion St. Catharine in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester girls volleyball Tuesday in Williamsbridge.

Kerri Connelly had nine assists and seven aces and Kimberly Wright had seven aces and five digs for Spellman (4-1). St. Catharine fell to 0-4.

Preston 3, Good Counsel 1: Victoria Sorrell had 11 kills and two blocks and Jasmina Dzurlic had five kills, four aces and 42 digs for Preston (4-1) in a 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 win in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester. Megan Triano had seven kills and three blocks, Danielle Alvarado had eight kills and 10 digs and Angela Fragale had 52 digs. Loredana Calce had 28 assists and six aces.

Fontbonne Hall 3, Christ the King 0: Katie Lang had 26 assists and Lauren Ganun had 13 kills and two blocks to lead Fontbonne (3-1) to a 25-20, 25-8, 30-28 win in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens at Aviator Sports Complex. Victoria Starace had five kills and six aces, Mary Kate Nestor had four aces, Siobhan Sammon had six aces, Kristen Sullivan had seven kills and Michele Moran added three blocks. The Bonnies are still without a gym and will play Thursday against Archbishop Molloy at Aviator again. Christ the King is 0-4.

St. Francis Prep 3, Christ the King 0: Nicole Tong had 15 assists and Kendra McCalla had 10 assists to lead St. Francis (5-0) to a 25-16, 25-3, 25-17 win Monday in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens. Talia Colasante, Kelly Flynn, Kaitlyn Sluyk, Jennifer Hussey and Johairy Rivadeneira all had four kills. Colasante had five aces and Caitlin O’Doherty had two kills and three blocks.

Brearley 3, St. Ann’s 0: Mary Claire Bartlett had eight kills and eight aces and Catherine Egan had six kills and two blocks to lead Brearley (3-0) to a 25-2, 25-18, 25-11 win in AAIS. Funmi Adejobi had 21 assists.

Kennedy 2, Lehman 0: Ashley Herrera had five kills and seven aces and Doruntina Zariqi had five kills and six aces to lead Kennedy (3-1) in a 25-13, 25-5 win in Bronx A1. Shefkije Zariqi had 13 assists and Hajrija Jadacic had five aces. Lehman is 0-3.

Tottenville 2, Port Richmond 0: Song Hee Han had five assists and Sara Hwang had three aces to lead Tottenville (2-2) in a 25-21, 25-12 win in Staten Island A9. Port Richmond is 0-3.

Bryant 2, Edison 0: Carmen Clavijo had six kills and 10 aces and Viviana Portillo had seven assists for Bryant (4-0) in a 25-8, 25-11 win in Queens A8. Edison is 0-3.

LaGuardia 2, Art & Design 0: Victoria Marrazzo had seven aces and Grace Van Patten and Eleanor Seery each had five aces to lead LaGuardia (3-1) to a 25-3, 25-13 win in Manhattan A5. Art & Design is 0-3.

Bard 2, Norman Thomas 1: Galina Majstorovic had 10 kills, 15 assists and 12 aces to lead Bard (3-1) to a 21-25, 25-17, 25-16 win in Manhattan A4. Yu Ting Yang had five kills and seven digs, Kinga Kadziolka had 15 assists and Migle Rokuizyte had 12 digs. Stephanie Sanchez had six kills and Marisabel Rodriguez and Gabriela Ortiz each had five kills for Norman Thomas (0-3).

Van Buren 2, Hillcrest 0: Veda Gajadhar had five kills and Natural Parker had six assists to lead Van Buren (2-0) to a 25-13, 25-20 win in Queens A8. Mariama Butcher had five kills for Hillcrest (0-3).
