Disney to re-release four more animated hits in 3D

LOS ANGELES — After its success with the 3D re-release of its 1994 animated film “The Lion King,” Disney is planning to put four more of its animation hits back in theaters in the same format, Deadline.com reported Tuesday.

“Beauty and the Beast” and “Finding Nemo” will see limited 3D theatrical release in January 2012 and September 2012, respectively.

“Monsters, Inc.” and “The Little Mermaid” will follow suit in January 2013 and September 2013.

The re-release of “The Lion King” has made nearly $80 million in US theaters, and beat out new films to top the box office in its first two weekends.

The 3D “Monsters, Inc.” will hit the big screen five months before its prequel, “Monsters University,” scheduled for release on June 21, 2013.
