TAKE 25: Conde Nastie grabs $7,000 rental.
Jim Carrey is on the hunt for a serious downtown bachelor pad. We hear that the actor, who fell back in love with New York while shooting “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” is looking to spend from $5 million to $8 million.
Spies spotted the lanky funnyman outside the Zinc condo building at 475 Greenwich St. in TriBeCa. Carrey was there to check out a stunning, 2,663-square-foot penthouse duplex that’s now on the market for $5.95 million after a big price reduction.
The three-bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom residence, which was priced at $7.25 million last year, has two big terraces, including a 981-square-foot rooftop terrace.
Carrey recently rented a glassy residence at the Richard Meier-designed 176 Perry St. condo in the West Village, and he even made an unsuccessful bid to buy a full-floor apartment in the building that wasn’t on the market. We hear that Carrey loved the luxe development but is looking for privacy from pesky paparazzi.
The 25 club
The storied Greenwich Village apartment building at 25 Fifth Ave. has a knack for attracting creative types. Film director Joel Schumacher bought a condo in the building in 2008. And artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s estate also owns a unit here.
Now we’re told Conde Nast executive Bill Wackermann just moved into a $7,000-a-month two-bedroom that was previously rented by “Terminator Salvation” producer and actor Victor Kubicek. (Kubicek is now working on a documentary about Bernie Madoff.) Spies say Sally Field also took a look at the 988-square-foot apartment with 10-foot beamed ceilings and a kitchen with high-end appliances.
Brokers Sabrina Seidner and Susan Eley of Nest Seekers International declined to comment.
Leap prog
Musician Robert Kinkel, co-founder of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and his girlfriend Dina Fanai, a singer, songwriter and producer with the prog-rock band, have just rented a harmonious two-bedroom in an Upper West Side brownstone for $4,000 a month.
The big apartment, in the West 70s near Columbus Avenue, includes a solarium and private outdoor space. Broker Michael Chadwick of Bond New York declined to comment.
Chadwick, as it turns out, is a performer himself. The broker/actor will play a 19th-century latin lover in the Travel Channel’s “Mysteries at the Museum,” and he’s also in a nationwide print campaign for Verizon Wireless.
Jackson Pull-ock
Painter Jackson Pollock’s old West Village apartment at 46 Carmine St. was briefly listed for $1.4 million but quietly taken off the market on Tuesday. We’re told there’s currently a renter whose $4,600-a-month lease ends in about five months.
The 800-square-foot, one-bedroom penthouse loft where Pollock was a tenant is in a historic building that was built in 1827 and originally owned by Aaron Burr. There’s the potential to build another story on top of the residence.
The penthouse, which was listed by Citi Habitats’ Ehud Eliasi, was gut-renovated five years ago. It has four skylights, a working fireplace and a Japanese soaking tub.

That Foster and Aileen Birch just plunked down $9.95 million for a six-bedroom, six-bathroom residence in the grand, white-glove co-op building at 850 Park Ave (Birch is the son of Oppenheimer executive Robert Birch) … That Evan Joseph, who has photographed the homes of celebrities including Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Natalie Portman and Martha Stewart, will have his photos of New York City at night exhibited at the Tachi Gallery in TriBeCa starting on Oct. 27.
