MTV’s “Beavis and Butt-Head” returned in a big way Thursday night, snaring 3.3 million viewers in the classic ‘toon’s first original episode since 1997.

The sex-obsessed animated teens — Butt-Head and his blond, moronic sidekick, Beavis — performed particularly well in the show’s target audience of males 12-34, pulling in MTV’s second-biggest numbers in that demographic behind only “Jersey Shore.”

The original “Beavis and Butt-Head” ran on MTV from 1993-97 and turned the slacker couch potatoes into cult heroes — even spawning a 1996 big-screen movie, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.”

Series creator Mike Judge, who went on to create “King of the Hill” for Fox and wrote and directed several big-screen movies — including the underground classic “Office Space” — decided to resurrect “Beavis and Butt-Head” and has kept the original format largely intact (save for updating the music videos mocked by the teens).
