No major changes for Giants, Jets as Seahawks get Nike overhaul

No more callers, we have a winner. The Seahawks take first place in the Who Has The Most Unusual New NFL Uniform competition.

“Crazy uniforms … the Seahawks have the best uniforms out there right now,’’ praised Packers tight end Jermichael Finley yesterday at Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where the launch of the five-year partnership between the NFL and Nike included the unveiling of Nike’s new uniforms for all 32 teams.

There were players from every team on hand modeling the updated uniforms as Nike takes over for Reebok and for 31 teams the changes are negligible or non-existent.

The Giants and Jets retained their uniform style, but the Seahawks went for a complete makeover. There’s a new, deeper blue, the introduction of “wolf grey’’ as a color and neon lime green outlines around the numbers and down the sides of the pants. There’s also a native-American-inspired wing pattern featuring 12 “feather trim’’ wing designs running down the pant legs, paying homage to the Seattle fans, the “12th man.’’

Otherwise, the Nike Elite 51 “Speed Machine’’ uniforms to be worn in the NFL this season feature technological changes. The base layer is 22 percent cooler, the uniforms are 8 percent tighter in fit — players said they like the “shrink-wrap’’ feel — 5 percent drier and are made of more flexible material.

“The uniform is great, man,’’ said Victor Cruz, who modeled the Giants’ uniform, joining an array of NFL stars. “It’s comfortable, it’s light, it feels good to wear.’’

Most every team’s jersey includes a new “Flywire’’ neck collar with modified seam lines. One noticeable difference on the field will be the Nike footwear, as for the first time players will wear shoes in team colors rather than white or black.

The Giants are making one stylistic change. In the past they’ve worn their five-stripe gray pants on the road and three-stripe gray pants at home, but this season they are going with the five-stripe grays for home and away games.
