‘SNL’ recap: Sofia Vergara doesn’t mind if you check her out

Sofia Vergara’s heavy accent and notable curves highlighted her hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live.”

The “Modern Family” actress, who’s Colombian, summed up the evening during her monologue, saying, “Forgive me if you don’t understand what I say – and I’ll forgive you for staring at my chest the whole night.”

Done and done.

Wearing a black, zip-front, off-the-shoulder dress, Vergara focused on her acclimation to America during the monologue.

“This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled-down pants,” she said.

And that accent, which she demonstrated can make anything sound sexy … “Rick San-tor-ummm.”

“New Jerrrsey.”

Early in the show, Vergara portrayed Fran Drescher in a skit called “Being Quirky with Zooey Deschanel.”

“The guys on “The Nanny” used to call me ‘the bullhorn,’” she said, imitating Drescher’s nasally drone.

Sofia later appeared as a sex-ed teacher (yes, an acting stretch) victimized by a spunky student named Gillie (Kristen Wiig).

And then there was a mock Pantene commercial starring Vergara and Penelope Cruz (Kate McKinnon, the show’s first open lesbian cast member on her debut show). The skit saw Vergara saying fun, easy words – aloe, hair, Pantene – while Cruz is forced to recite difficult chemical compounds, such as ‘Arteriovenous Plexus.’

“SNL” closed with Sofia serving as an in-arena announcer at the “Hunger Games,” inadvertently giving up her interview subjects and watching them perish.

“Hunger Games!” she screams. Yes, hunger games indeed.

Also:

Musical guest One Direction appeared in a skit called “The Manuel Ortiz Show,” dancing in a line as Vergara’s sons.

The “Just Friends” booty shorts skit featuring Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg was worth a few laughs.
