PSAL softball roundup: Higgins, Stuy stop streaking GW

Stuyvesant made its bid for a Manhattan title.

Morgan Higgins gave up just two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts in seven innings to lead Stuy to a 6-2 win over previously undefeated George Washington in PSAL Manhattan A softball Thursday in Washington Heights.

Higgins was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Miranda Kalish was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Stuyvesant (4-1). Rosie Rodriguez pitched for GW (5-1) in place of No. 1 starter Thairalys Enchautegui, who is injured.

James Madison 12, New Utrecht 1: Gina Gerone went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Samantha Rehill went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run for Madison (5-0 Brooklyn A). Cheyenne Tatesure gave up no earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. New Utrecht is 1-4.

Telecom 10, Midwood 9: Cristina Morales went 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored to lead Telecom (5-1 Brooklyn A). Midwood is 1-3.

Bryant 19, Richmond Hill 1: Tiffany Zecena went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Sarah Temkin and Gabrielle Faustino each had two RBIs for Bryant (4-1 Queens A-II). Richmond Hill is 2-3.

Bushwick 11, Fort Hamilton 8: Kiara Johnson went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Karol Trejo was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Bushwick (3-2 Brooklyn A). Fort Hamilton is 0-4.

Environmental Studies 6, Manhattan Center 5: Maria Tolentino gave up just two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings and Eva Lassen was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Environmental (3-2 Manhattan A). Manhattan Center is 3-3.

Hunter College HS 11, Beacon 1: Rachel Retica was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored and Jodi Krausher gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts in six innings for Hunter (3-2 Manhattan A). Beacon is 2-3.

PSAL CLASS B

Adams 12, Beach Channel 2: Olina Cespedes went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored and Racquel Phagoo was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs for Adams (7-0 Queens B-II). Beach Channel is 4-3.
