This weeks couple: Surprise party

When we set up Isabella, a 26-year-old maitre d’, we didn’t know she was keeping a secret from her date Adam — that it was her birthday on their date. The birthday girl and the 27-year-old actor enjoyed their meal at the West Village American eatery Home — but we had to wonder, was Adam the icing on her cake? Or was she wishing for something more?

She said:

My first impression of Adam was that he had a warm and friendly demeanor. I wasn’t immediately attracted to him, but the conversation took off right away. It turns out we live super-close to each other in Murray Hill, so we talked about our favorite hangouts.

He also impressed me with his theater connections and we bonded over being the youngest in our families. At one point, Adam asked when my birthday is. That was the only secret I was trying to keep, but it was written all over my face — it was my actual birthday. Birthdays aren’t a big thing for me, so I tried to move past it. We parted ways after exchanging numbers. I’m not sure about a romantic relationship, but we had so much in common there’s no reason not to hang out again.

He said:

I arrived first and since it was a nice night out, I opted for the garden seating. Isabella arrived and I was pleasantly surprised; she was definitely cute. She immediately struck me as someone fun and silly — in a good way. In fact, we couldn’t stop yakking long enough to pick out what we wanted to eat. We started with the usual small talk: where we went to school, what we were doing in the city. Isabella quickly taught me more than I’ve ever learned about wine and food since she works in food services.

About halfway through the dinner, Isabella revealed it was actually her birthday. I hope I was able to add to her special day! I’m excited to see her again.
