Alec Baldwin hints he still may seek political office

WASHINGTON — Alec Baldwin said Tuesday he may seek political office once his contract with NBC expires.

The “30 Rock” star and staunch Democrat told Bloomberg News that running for office “is something that I would love to do.”

“Well I have a contract with NBC to work for them through some point in 2013 … right now I’m just looking at what’s in front of me and finishing that,” the 54-year-old actor said in the interview that took place during a visit to Washington, D.C., to lobby for federal arts funding.

“And then, it is something that I would love to do … Let’s see what things are like in 2014 and maybe I can find some opportunity,” he continued without specifying what office he would consider.

Baldwin said key roles like governor or senator “are safe Democratic seats” in his home state of New York and conceded, “I’m not qualified to be comptroller or attorney general.”

In December, Baldwin ruled out the possibility of running to replace New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg when he finishes his third term in 2013.

In a WYNC interview at the time, he said “I don’t see myself in that crowd” of interested mayoral candidates, calling rumored contenders for the role “horny for their own ascension.”
