Granderson hits 3 home runs in first 4 innings of Yankees win over Twins

Curtis Granderson has smacked three homers in tonight’s game against the Twins – so far – becoming the first player to accomplish the feat in the new Yankee Stadium.

The center fielder went deep in his first three at-bats, delivering a solo homer in the first inning off righty Anthony Swarzak and a two-run blast in the second, also off Swarzak. In the fourth, Granderson’s third turn at the dish, he ripped a solo homer to right off reliever Jeff Gray.

The Yankees beat the Twins 7-6.

BOXSCORE

Granderson had a chance for a fourth homer in the sixth but instead lined a single to right against Alex Burnett.

Granderson is the 27th Yankee to hit three homers in a game. The only one to go deep four times was Lou Gehrig on June 3, 1932 at Philadelphia.

The last Yankee to hit three homers was Alex Rodriguez, who blasted three on Aug. 14, 2010 in Kansas City.

Granderson hit 41 homers last year, a team- and career-high. He now has five this season in 13 games.
