Denying a ‘hire’ power

The Issue: Heavy taxes, a proposed minimum-wage law and other impediments to business in New York.

***

Calling New York a “no-jobs machine” is an understatement (“NY’s No-Jobs Machine,” Editorial, April 24).

New York is the worst jobs killer ever known.

First, we killed off manufacturing jobs with unionization and taxes. Then we tried to kill off banking and investment jobs with more taxes and regulation.

Now, for good measure, we’re trying to stop fracking in its tracks.

All the while, we’ve given out tax credits to numerous sports teams, regardless of their financial health.

The newest plan in New York is to kill entry-level jobs by raising the minimum wage.

After all the evidence proving that raising the minimum wage reduces employment, the yokels in Albany and on the City Council still want to do it.

That’s just incredible — incredibly stupid.

Maybe it’s time for residents of The Bronx to take a hard look at why their representatives are either on the take or purposely rejecting viable alternatives when it comes to job creation.

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. openly worked against the Kingsbridge Armory development because he couldn’t impose the living wage on its retailers.

Now he’s had a change of heart. Does anyone smell an election?

With the help of the dysfunctional City Council, headed up by Speaker Chris Quinn, the job-killer called The Bronx is on life support.

The shame of this borough lies on the shoulders of its inept representatives.
