Hermès fakers $lapped

The hammer came down on bogus Birkin bag peddlers yesterday as Hermès won a $100 million judgment against dozens of Web sites selling knockoffs of its luxury handbags and other items.

Manhattan federal Judge Denise Cote awarded the whopping judgment against 34 Web sites — including HermesBagsOutlet.org, HermesBirkin-Bags.org and HermesOutletStore.com — saying the sellers were liable for trademark infringement and counterfeiting.

None of the defendants showed up in court.

They had previously ignored temporary restraining orders that barred them from selling faux Hermès goods, the judge said.

Together, the defendants sold at least nine distinct Hermès designs, including the luxe good maker’s famous Birkin and Kelly handbags.

They also sold scarves, jewelry, belts and watches purportedly from the fashion house, Cote said.

Cash held in the Web sites’ PayPal accounts will go toward paying the massive award.

The judge also ordered that Google, Bing and Yahoo stop providing links to the Web sites.

And Facebook and Twitter were instructed to “de-index” and remove from any search results the offending sites.
