Utah woman finds cocaine in box of tampons

SALT LAKE CITY — A woman found cocaine in a box of tampons she bought at her local store in Salt Lake City, KSL-TV reported.

Cindy Davidson said she was shocked when she opened the box of tampons she bought at a local general store Sunday and found a powdery substance rolled up in cellophane and taped inside the cardboard applicator in two of the 16 tampons in the box.

“I noticed there was packaging inside that wasn’t normal,” Davidson told the station. “They had removed the tampon, and there was cocaine inside.”

She added, “I started getting nervous because I thought it might have been a terrorist attack. I called my sister first and said I was going to call the manufacturer the next day, and she told me to call the police.”

Davidson called police, who tested the substance and confirmed it was cocaine.

“I really couldn’t wrap my head around it,” she said. “I was just thinking it was crazy. I couldn’t believe it had happened.”

The shop where the tampons were bought — the NPS Store in Salt Lake City — pulled the brand of tampons from the shelves while police investigate.

Salt Lake City police detective Carlie Wiechman said, “We’re definitely looking into it until we can figure out exactly what’s going on with the situation … we’re still actively trying to figure out what’s going on with this.”
