OWS’ drizzle fizzle: time for group to go

The Issue: Occupy Wall Street’s failure to keep New Yorkers out of work on a rainy May Day.

Kudos for an excellent and insightful editorial on the fading movement that is Occupy Wall Street (“Goodbye, Occupy,” May 2).

Almost from the beginning, when the movement began gaining steam, it was hijacked by anarchists who thought that destroying things and other people’s property was some form of protest.

It is not, and most Americans with common sense recognize that.

What began as a good idea was quickly turned into a joke that was highlighted by criminal acts and numerous arrests.

I, for one, am ready to say good riddance.

The mobs in the streets should refocus their ire and demand that US universities and colleges liquidate 50 percent of their endowment funds to pay off their alumni’s student loans.

Additionally, they should demand that professors absorb a 15 percent salary cut to keep tuition affordable for the current generation.

The Post nails OWS’ May Day protest on the head.

From now on, these protesters should be referred to as leftist, lazy losers.

Someone must have forgotten to tell The Post that millions of Americans are either unemployed or underemployed.

I don’t know what rock you guys have been under, but things are bad out there.

And what solution does The Post offer to help our fragile economy recover? Tax cuts for the rich, of course.

Although the recent Occupy Wall Street protest was just another exercise in futility, no one should be laughing when protesters break the law.

These malcontents have received, and continue to receive, encouragement from President Obama to bolster his class-warfare campaign strategy.

Americans should hold Obama accountable for his actions and demand that he uphold law and order in our nation.

The OWS protesters are nothing more than sheep who follow poor leadership. They can’t think for themselves and have to be led around by their shepherd.

These are the very same people who become government-dependent — which is exactly what the Obama administration wants.

Open your eyes and become leaders, not followers.

Remember, the only dog in a sled team that has a different view is the lead dog. All the rest are looking at butts.

This May Day, OWS protesters continued to play the 1 percent against the 99 percent for political gain. Sooner or later, producers of wealth will be outnumbered by the takers.

What’s stopping those who create wealth and income from going on strike and demanding that they be able to keep more of what they earn?

The infamous 1 percent already contributes 40 percent of all taxes paid. Contrast that with the 46 percent who pay no taxes, many of whom are heavily dependent upon entitlement programs.

It is the billions in taxes on profits, income and bonuses that Wall Street companies and their employees pay that fund many essential public services.

Wall Street is the financial engine that drives our economy.
