Facebook sets IPO for May 18

Facebook Inc. is planning to start its roadshow to pitch its stock to investors on Monday, as the social network enters the final stages of its coming public offering, said people familiar with the matter.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will make some appearances on the roadshow, though he will not attend all meetings, said these people. Other top Facebook executives like Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman will handle the bulk of the roadshow meetings, these people said.

If the roadshow goes smoothly, Facebook will hold its IPO, which could raise as much as $10 billion and value the company at around $100 billion, on May 18, setting final pricing for the deal the day before, said these people.

The people cautioned that while all these dates were planned, the Menlo Park, Calif., company could still push events back a day or two.
