Carrión eyes run for mayor

Former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión is telling friends that he’s “seriously thinking about running for mayor” and will make a decision by the fall.

Carrión, 51, thinks there’s room for another candidate in the race with his middle-of-the-road political outlook, one source said yesterday. “He thinks the Democrats are all trying to out-left each other,” said the source. “He’s a moderate-to-conservative Democrat.”

Republican leaders searching for a viable mayoral contender have approached Carrión, among others, about running on their line.

He hasn’t accepted. But he also hasn’t rejected the idea out of hand.

“There is a space for an Hispanic to run for some citywide office,” said veteran political consultant Jerry Skurnik. “If Bloomberg could run as a Republican, why can’t he?”
