Injured Bay could return to Mets within week

Mets left fielder Jason Bay, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 24 with a fractured rib, met with team doctors last night at Citi Field and was cleared to resume some baseball activities.

“It hasn’t been determined how much and what they’re going to be, but I’m sure they’ll be rotational exercises to start to get his core back to strength,’’ manager Terry Collins said.

The left fielder eventually will have to play in some minor league rehab games, and Collins estimated Bay could be back in 7-10 days.

“I start [today],’’ Bay said. “Just ramping up, anything that’s tolerable, running, hitting, everything will be a progression. They just said if something bothers you, don’t do it.’’

* In the wake of a Wall Street Journal report that the Mets are likely to offer David Wright a long-term deal, the third baseman and a well-placed source told The Post he hasn’t had any new talks with the team.

“I got nothing. That’s news to me,” Wright told The Post. “I haven’t heard anything. I didn’t even hear that report. But either way, there haven’t been any talks. That’s about it.’’

Wright went 1-for-3 with a run, and leads the National League in hitting at .398.

* Ronny Cedeno dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt to plate Daniel Murphy in the sixth.

“I just tried to be relaxed and get one down,’’ Cedeno said. “The squeeze is tough. I don’t want to miss it.’’

* Murphy had an RBI single in the first and doubled and scored in the sixth. He has matched a career high with his 10-game hitting streak, batting .455 in that span.

“That’s why I’m hitting him where I hit him,” Collins said. “[Wright] is on every night two or three times, and we’ve got to find somebody to start driving him in.’’

* Collins said catcher Josh Thole is still resting and improving after suffering a concussion last Monday in Philadelphia. Backup Rob Johnson’s thumb still is hurting after getting hit with a foul ball Sunday in Miami, but he is available to play.
