Sparing the 9/11 Terrorists

The Issue: A 9/11 victim’s family member opposing the death penalty for the 9/11 masterminds.

I’m deeply moved by the words and actions of Blake Allison, as I share his religious-based belief about the sacredness of human life (“Devil’s Advocate,” May 14).

Thank you for giving Post readers the opportunity to consider the truths Allison offers.

While it’s clear that you do not share his views, your coverage is nevertheless a sign of respect for our Constitutional right to a free press.

Allison’s selfish action not only undermines the grieving families of the thousands brutally murdered on 9/11 but also demonstrates a complete lack of empathy for them.

And for what? Religious fascists who would cut his head off in a heartbeat as a “reward” for his principles.

I’ll likely be in the minority, but I fully support Allison’s view.

It is within his rights to express his beliefs, and I applaud that he did not allow personal tragedy to change his long-held beliefs against the death penalty.

All those of faith who attack him would benefit from re-reading the book they use to support their arguments.

I only hope that if I was ever as unfortunate as Allison, or any of the other 9/11 families who have had to go through the murder of a loved one, that I would have the ability to remain so true to my moral and religious beliefs and character.
